I am a freelance journalist interested in finding out more about the EFSA’s work on cloning issues. I visited your website and learnt about your seeking scientific contributions from Third Parties on the issue of cloning animals for commercial purposes.
I am interested to find out if there are any consumer organisations in EU that object to this issue for an article I am writing on the subject, in which I compare the situation in the US, where the public is way more aware of these type of issues due to the milk debate that’s raged on there since the FDA allowed injecting cows with recombinant bovine somatotropin and now also appears to condone meat of cloned cows to enter the food chain unlabeled.
To my understanding there is some resistance in Europe to cloning cows and allowing cloned meat to enter the shops unlabeled. I am writing to you to find out if you have been contacted by any public (consumer) groups on the committee’s upcoming decision?
I would very much appreciate your reply. I have written one article on the subject (http://www.globalpolitician.com/articleshow.asp?ID=3249&cid=1&sid=24) and my next article focuses on consumer awareness differences in the US and Europe.
